You know there was this point mid-season where I was actually kind of offended by how smoothly Arizona had transitioned to her new self and how politely everyone let Callie sort of handle the hospital buyout and how these two just sort of let it all go instead of talk their feelings out like any good Grey’s couple.

To realize that it was all with the purpose of that final scene? Awesome.

I love that Arizona isn’t over her loss of limb. Woman clearly stated days before her amputation that she’d RATHER DIE than lose her leg. Six months later she’s aces and harboring no bitterness or resentment despite generally being a pretty prickly lady who once kept Karev off her service because he slept with her girlfriend years before? That didn’t make sense.

Arizona stewing and pushing it aside and stewing and pushing it aside until it exploded out in the most unpleasant way possible? THAT makes sense.

I really can’t imagine how or where they will go from here. I can’t imagine what sort of support system they will each build and how or if they can reconcile the awful things said and the massive whole that sits between them.

But I can’t wait to find out.

ADDENDUM:

I don’t want the above to make it seem like I hate Callie or something so here is more.

The things is…the things is some things just can’t be talked out or middle ground okay? Like Arizona has experience this MASSIVE violation and (perceived) betrayal of trust and it is ON HER to get her shit together and either stew or get better. And some of that takes effort but a lot of that just takes time.

And Callie. Callie is the flipping perfect sunbeam of wonderment okay? And what was so great about her and Arizona in the beginning was Arizona RESCUED Callie. She was her McDreamy, rolling into her life and making everything better and building Callie up in a way even Mark couldn’t do. But in the process Arizona was ALWAYS giving and that shit is dangerous (don’t do it), and Callie, so used to fighting was like “hey this chick is giving me free stuff and she’s amazing and I’m going to take it.” So she was ALWAYS taking and things sort of spun and twisted around so their relationship was always about Arizona bending and Callie kind of demanding and again THIS SHIT IS MUTUAL DUMMINESS. This isn’t a bad guy or good guy. This is two people engaging in some unhealthy relationshipping because it worked and felt good. GIVE AND TAKE YOU GUYS DON’T JUST BE A GIVER OR A TAKER.

Then this season happens. And Arizona is at first like “fuck you I want to be alone to diiiiie” and that’s valid because even if she can grasp what Callie did she’s still mad and THAT’S OKAY. And Callie is like “okay I’m gonna give you space and deal with dead Mark deading.”

But then. Then Mark was gone and Callie was fed up with her depressed wife and she wanted NORMAL because her life was shit balls so she fought for NORMAL and that mean trying to slip back into the habit of her saying BE MY KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR and Arizona was also wanting to feel anything but the awful that was her day to day was like OKAY I AM GONNA DO THAT THE THING.

But it didn’t work. It was a dirty bandaid on this festering wound. Because again, you can’t have one person giving and one person taking. You do that and the giver starts to resent the taker and the taker then finds themselves blindsided because the giver doesn’t use their damn words.

I hope you found a mic after typing this *just* so you could drop it.
